Hard water contains dissolved minerals, Calcium and Magnesium salts. Water hardness is measured by the concentration of these elements and is quoted in milligrams per litre (mg/l). Here are the various water classifications:

  • Soft water 0 to 60 mg/l
  • Moderately hard water 60 to 120 mg/l
  • Hard water 120 to 200 mg/l
  • Very hard water above 200 mg/l
